1969 Guitarist Jimi Hendrix earns the biggest paycheck ever paid at the time for a single concert appearance. Hendrix was paid $125,000 to appear for a single set at the Newport Jazz Festival near LA

2000 The Deftones release their third album, White Pony.

2000 The Smashing Pumpkins begin what will turn out to be their last world tour until 2007 in Yokohama, Japan.

2004 Metallica is the only heavy rock band to be named to Forbes magazine’s annual list of the one hundred most powerful figures in the entertainment world.

2005 Radiohead‘s 1997 album, OK Computer, is named the best album of the past 20 years in a new list published by Spin magazine.

2006 British trio Keane releases its second album, called Under The Iron Sea.

2008 Veteran punk act Pennywise reportedly comes close to splitting up onstage during its headlining performance on the first stop of the Warped Tour in Pomona, California. Apparently intoxicated, frontman Jim Lindberg and guitarist Fletcher Dragge come onstage and badmouth the tour and its crew, before Lindberg finally asks someone else to sing, saying, “It’s been a great 15 years. This is the end.”

2016 X Ambassadors issue a statement addressing the whereabouts of guitarist Noah Feldshuh, saying that Feldshuh is “taking an indefinite hiatus to deal with some personal issues.”
