1975 “Sweet Emotion” by Aerosmith peaks at Number 36 on the pop chart.

1976 Deep Purple breaks up.

1986 “Dreams” by Van Halen peaks at Number 22 on the pop chart.

1987 With a city councilman sitting in the audience waiting for an excuse to have them arrested on obscenity charges, the Beastie Boys do not use their usual nearly naked dancers and 20-foot male organ at a Memphis concert.

1989 The Beastie Boys release their second album, Paul’s Boutique.

1996 The Smashing Pumpkins announce that they are postponing, not canceling, their summer tour to look for a new drummer and keyboardist.

2001 Metallica confirms that frontman James Hetfield has entered a rehabilitation center to combat what a statement on the band’s website calls “alcoholism and other addictions.”

2001 Creed‘s second album, Human Clay, is awarded diamond certification for sales of over 10 million copies.

2002 A Metallica fans makes a winning bid of $23,200 in an eBay charity auction for a day in the studio and dinner with the band.

2006 Eddie Van Halen performs at a private party in a West Hollywood floral shop. Van Halen, wearing torn jeans and without a shirt, debuts a lot of new music.

2006 Radiohead singer Thom Yorke‘s first solo album, The Eraser, debuts at Number Two on the Billboard album chart with sales of 90,000 copies, while Muse‘s fourth effort, Black Holes and Revelations, arrives at Number Nine with sales of 48,000, marking the British trio’s best week ever on the chart.
