1994 A memo from the U.S. Justice Department shows Pearl Jam accusing the Rolling Stones of taking a cut from Ticketmaster service charges. Aerosmith confirms that they were offered — and turned down — a similar deal.

1994 The third (and final) day of the Woodstock ’94 festival takes place in Saugerties, New York. North Stage performers include the Allman Brothers BandPorno For PyrosBob DylanRed Hot Chili Peppers, and Peter Gabriel. South Stage performers include Slash of Guns N’ RosesGreen Day, and Santana. Green Day has to cut their set short after 30 minutes because of a mud fight, while bassist Mike Dirnt needs dental work after an altercation with a security guard.

1999 The Red Hot Chili Peppers perform in Russia for the first time.

2000 Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes appear on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.

2000 Rage Against The Machine plays a free concert outside the Staples Center in Los Angeles, where the Democratic National Convention is being held. The band plays the show for “all the people who feel left out and excluded by the two major political parties,” according to a posting on their website. The event turns ugly as protesters and police clash, leading to four injuries and six arrests.

2001 Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro proposes to his girlfriend, model and actress Carmen Electra. They marry, but divorce in 2007.

2001 Former Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan officially announces that he has formed a new band, which later becomes known as Zwan.

2002 Drowning Pool vocalist Dave Williams is found dead of heart disease in his bunk on the band’s tour bus while they’re on Ozzfest.

2005 Before playing the last show of their European tour, the members of U2 are given a state honor, the Order Of Liberty, by the president of Portugal at the country’s presidential palace in Lisbon.

2006 MTV.com reveals that a new supergroup project is being formed by former Pantera drummer Vinnie PaulMudvayne’s Chad Gray and Greg Tribbett, andNothingface’sJerry Montano and Tom Maxwell.

2013 Blue Oyster Cult co-founder Allen Lanier dies at age 67 after being hospitalized with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease — a condition linked directly to smoking.
