1970 The Doors‘ final show with Jim Morrison takes place in New Orleans.

1973 Queen begins its first tour of the U.K. at Leeds Town Hall in Yorkshire, opening for Mott The Hoople.

1988 Rattle And Hum by U2 hits Number One on the album chart, where it stays for six weeks.

1999 Sammy Hagar cuts off his hair on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, and he donates the hair to the Locks Of Love children’s charity, which makes hairpieces for children who experience hair loss during medical treatments.

2001 R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck goes on trial in London over an “air rage” incident on a British Airways flight from the U.S. to the U.K. He is eventually cleared of the charges.

2002 Riot Act by Pearl Jam is released.

2002 The Metallica DVD Live Sh*t: Binge And Purge is released.

2003 Former Hole singer Courtney Love pleads innocent to two felony drug possession charges in Beverly Hills Municipal Court. Love, who is charged with possessing two prescription painkillers, Vicodin and OxyContin, tells reporters that the charges are “retarded.”

2008 A painting owned by Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich, by late artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, sells for $12 million at an auction held by Christie’s in New York.
