1969 A jury in Toronto finds Jimi Hendrix not guilty of heroin and marijuana possession.

1978 Van Halen begins recording the Van Halen II album.

1980 John Lennon‘s body is cremated in Hartsdale, New York.

1984 The original Band Aid single, “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”, is released. Proceeds from the song go toward famine relief in Ethiopia.

1993 Scotland Yard reopens the investigation into the death of Jimi Hendrix after receiving an anonymous tip, which some feel came from his old girlfriend Kathy Etchingham.

1999 Limp Bizkit‘s second album, Significant Other, is certified quintuple platinum.

2004 The reunited Motley Crue performs on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

2005 Velvet Revolver guitarist SlashStone Temple Pilots bassist Robert DeLeo and guitarist Dean DeLeo and others salute Stevie Wonder at the Grammy Jam benefit at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles. All proceeds go to the Entertainment Industry Foundation’s National Arts And Music Education Initiative.

2005 3 Doors Down, stages a benefit concert in Mobile, Alabama, to help raise funds for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

2006 Stone Sour‘s second album, Come What(ever) May, is certified gold for shipments of more than 500,000 copies.

2007 Led Zeppelin plays its highly-anticipated reunion show at London’s O2 Arena, marking the first time surviving members Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones play a full gig together in nearly 20 years. They are joined by late drummer John Bonham‘s son Jason behind the kit. The 16-song set starts with “Good Times, Bad Times” the opening number from the band’s self-titled 1969 debut, and closes with encores “Whole Lotta Love” and “Rock and Roll.”

2012 Metallica releases its Quebec Magnetic Blu-ray/DVD, marking the first product issued by the band on its own label, Blackened Recordings.
