1917 Actor Ernest Borgnine (From Here To Eternity, The Dirty Dozen, The Wild Bunch, The Poseidon Adventure, Red; the voice of Mermaid Man on SpongeBob SquarePants) is born. He dies in 2012.
1947 Warren Zevon is born. He dies in 2003.
1949 Actor John Belushi (Saturday Night Live, The Blues Brothers) is born. He dies in 1992.
1975 Actor Larry Fine (The Three Stooges) dies at age 72.
1976 The live version of “Rock And Roll All Nite” by Kiss peaks at Number 12 on the pop chart.
1979 The Clash releases its first U.S. single, a cover of the Bobby Fuller Four‘s “I Fought The Law.”
1986 Author and Church Of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard (Dianetics, Battlefield Earth) dies at age 74.
1989 Serial killer Ted Bundy is executed at age 42.
1995 Balance by Van Halen is released.
1996 Metallica‘s live CD and video package Binge And Purge is certified five times platinum for sales of over five million copies.
1996 Bush‘s debut album, Sixteen Stone, is certified triple platinum.
1996 Oasis‘s breakthrough disc, What’s The Story (Morning Glory)? is certified platinum.
2001 Halle Berry and Eric Benet are married. They have since divorced.
2004 Iron Maiden‘s performance at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City is cut short when a fan throws his beer from the balcony, and it lands on the soundboard.
2006 Actor Chris Penn (Rumble Fish, Footloose, Reservoir Dogs; brother of Sean Penn) dies at age 40.
2006 P.O.D. releases its sixth album, called Testify, while pop-punk act Yellowcard issues its fourth effort, Lights And Sounds.
2007 The debut album from American Idol‘s Chris Daughtry reaches Number One in its ninth week on the Billboard album chart, after debuting at Number Two the previous November.
2018 Jack White announces a ban on mobile phones at shows on his upcoming tour. Revealing that his concerts will be a “phone-free, 100-percent human experience,” White says, “We think you’ll enjoy looking up from your gadgets for a little while and experience music and our shared love of it IN PERSON.”
