1980 Singer-drummer Peter Criss officially leaves Kiss for a solo career.

1980 Van Halen‘s Women And Children First peaks at Number Six on the album chart.

1986 “Why Can’t This Be Love” by Van Halen peaks at Number Three on the pop chart.

1999 Producer Bruce Fairbairn, who had worked with AerosmithVan HalenAC/DC and more, dies in his Vancouver home at age 49 of unknown causes.

2000 Bloodhound Gang‘s Hooray For Boobies album is certified platinum.

2003 Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry unveils a new signature series custom guitar at a private party at the Boston-area House Of Blues.

2003 Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland is arrested in Burbank, California, for possession of narcotics.

2004 U2 frontman Bono delivers the commencement address and is awarded an honorary Doctor Of Laws degree from the University Of Pennsylvania.

2004 The Los Angeles Times reports that after 20 years on the Elektra Records roster, Metallica will release its next album through Warner Bros. Records, as a result of parent company Warner Music Group’s consolidation of its Elektra and Atlantic imprints into one label.

2004 Green Day announces American Idiot as the title of their new album, which is released in September.

2004 Slipknot performs on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.

2005 System Of A Down releases Mezmerize, the first half of a two-CD project. The second part, titled Hypnotize, comes out the following November.

2006 Founding guitarist Izzy Stradlin’ joins Guns N’ Roses onstage for three songs at the final show of the band’s four-night stand in New York City. Stradlin’, who left the group in 1991, performs “Think About You,” “Patience” and “Night Train.”

2006 The Red Hot Chili Peppers land the first Number One debut of their career when the group’s new double CD, Stadium Arcadium, tops the Billboard 200 album chart, selling 442,000 copies in its first week of release.

2007 Evanescence announces Dark New Day drummer Will Hunt and guitarist Troy McLawhorn as replacements for departed drummer Rocky Gray and guitarist John LeCompt.

2007 Late Pantera and Damageplan guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott is posthumously inducted into the Hollywood RockWalk, in a ceremony attended by his brother and drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott, their father Jerry Abbott and Dimebag’s longtime girlfriend, Rita Haney. Musicians in attendance include members of Alice In ChainsAnthrax,KissSlayer and Ozzy Osbourne‘s band.

2008 Although they announced their reunion with a private seven-song show in Los Angeles the previous month, Stone Temple Pilots make their official return to the stage when they headline the first day of the Rock on the Range festival in Columbus, Ohio.
