1971 Doors frontman Jim Morrison is buried in Pere Lachaise Cemetery in Paris.
1988 “Nothin’ But A Good Time” by Poison peaks at Number Six on the pop chart.
2002 The Red Hot Chili Peppers celebrate the release of their new album, By The Way, by playing a concert at Ellis Island in New York Harbor.
2003 Korn headlines an Ozzfest date in California after Ozzy Osbourne is diagnosed with laryngitis and ordered to rest his voice for a few days.
2004 The documentary Some Kind of Monster, showcasing the rock band Metallica and their last album St. Anger, opens in New York and San Francisco.
2004 Courtney Love celebrates her 40th birthday by going to the hospital, even as a bench warrant is issued for her arrest that same day for failing to appear in a Los Angeles courtroom for arraignment on an assault charge. Love’s attorney says she has been hospitalized for a “gynecological condition.”
2008 The inaugural Rockstar Energy Mayhem tour kicks off in Seattle, with co-headliners Disturbed and Slipknot joined by three stages full of heavy rock and metal acts such as Mastodon, Airbourne, Five Finger Death Punch, and Machine Head.
