1996 The New York Yankees win their first World Series since 1978, defeating the Atlanta Braves 3-to-2 in Game Six.
1997 The Florida Marlins, who came into existence in 1993, become the youngest franchise to win the World Series with a 3-2 victory in the 11th inning over the Cleveland Indians in Game 7.

1999 Stone Temple Pilots release their No. 4 album.
1999 The Red Hot Chili Peppers perform a private concert on the 107th floor of the World Trade Center in New York City to celebrate the release of their new single “Around the World.”
1999 The boxed set Music Bank by Alice In Chains is released.
2000 Limp Bizkit debuts at Number One on the Billboard 200 as their third album, Chocolate Starfish & The Hot Dog Flavored Water, sells more than 1.5 million copies in its first week of release.
2001 Courtney Love plays her first-ever solo show at the Ventura Theatre in Ventura, California.

2004 The Jimmy Page & Robert Plant DVD No Quarter: Unledded is released. It’s taken from their 1994 MTV Unplugged performance.
2004 John Peel, a BBC Radio DJ legendary for his championing of modern music from alternative to death metal to hip-hop, dies at the age of 65. Peel is widely acknowledged to have introduced British audiences to punk, reggae, extreme metal, and many other genres of music.
2004 U2‘s Bono and the Edge join Apple Computer CEO Steve Jobs to unveil the U2 iPod.
2005 Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose is voted one of the world’s coolest “old people” in a survey by Ellegirl magazine. The 43-year-old vocalist joins 75-year-old actor Clint Eastwood, 51-year-old rocker Elvis Costello, 47-year-old singer Madonna and 62-year-old Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger on the list.
2005 Depeche Mode debuts at Number Seven on the Billboard 200 with their 11th studio album, Playing The Angel, which sells 99,000 copies in its first week of release.
2011 A coroner’s inquest on the death of Amy Winehouse reaches a verdict of misadventure. The report explains that Winehouse’s blood alcohol content was 416 mg per decilitre at the time of her death, more than five times the legal drink-drive limit.
