1980 The Van Halen album Women And Children First is certified gold.

1982 The Clash releases Combat Rock.

2000 In a guest column in Newsweek magazine, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich writes that he and his fellow bandmates don’t care what people think of them for suing free music distributor Napster because “we think it’s the right thing to do, period.”

2001 Hole frontwoman Courtney Love enters the studio to record blues and jazz classics for the soundtrack to the upcoming 1920s-era film in which she stars, Hello Suckers. Neither the film nor the soundtrack materializes.

2002 David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar kick off their Heavyweight Champs Of Rock ‘N Roll co-headlining tour in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

2004 Canada’s Sum 41 is evacuated from the war-torn African nation of Congo, where they were filming a documentary for War Child Canada, when it is deemed unsafe for them to remain there.

2004 Saliva frontman Josey Scott marries fiancee Kendra at Elvis Presley‘s Graceland estate in Memphis.

2005 Saliva guitarist Chris D’abaldo announces online that he has quit the group. He briefly rejoins a few days later before quitting again for good.

2008 Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler confirms that he has checked into a rehab facility for the first time in over 20 years, saying he needs a “safe environment to recuperate” from a series of painful foot surgeries. He later admits that he was also worried about developing an addiction to the painkillers he was taking at the time.

2009 Ozzy Osbourne files a lawsuit against his Black Sabbath bandmate and guitarist Tony Iommi over ownership of the band’s name and copyright. The case is settled in 2010.
