1967 The Jimi Hendrix Experience performs at the Saville Theater in London, where Hendrix opens his set with a cover of the Beatles‘ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” much to the surprise of Paul McCartney and George Harrison, who are sitting in the audience.
1976 The Sex Pistols play arguably one of the most important concerts in the history of alternative rock, at the Lesser Free Trade Hall in Manchester, England. In the audience are future members of the Buzzcocks, Joy Division, the Pet Shop Boys and the Smiths. All are compelled by what they saw that night to form bands.
1994 Courtney Love surfaces for the first time since Kurt Cobain‘s suicide, showing up at the MTV Video Awards with R.E.M.‘s Michael Stipe.
1999 Pearl Jam releases “Last Kiss” as a single.
2000 Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker suffers a broken pinky after being attacked by two men outside a fast food restaurant in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Barker had argued with the men earlier inside the restaurant after they made passes at Barker’s girlfriend. The injury sidelines the drummer during the band’s tour.
2001 Spinal Tap plays a 20-song, 90-minute show at New York’s Carnegie Hall as part of the Toyota Comedy Festival.
2002 The first issue of Gene Simmons Tongue hits newsstands, while Kiss offers Kiss Kondomes to the public to coincide with the magazine’s release.
2004 It’s announced that U2 singer Bono and Coldplay‘s Chris Martin are among the celebrities who have signed a letter to British Prime Minister Tony Blair urging that more money be distributed to the world’s poorest countries.
2004 Creed officially announces that it’s disbanding after ten years.
2006 Rob Zombie announces at his MySpace page that he will write and direct a “re-imagining” of the 1978 horror classic Halloween.
2007 The Smashing Pumpkins play a secret two-hour acoustic show in Berlin for 200 fans, followed by a question-and-answer session.
