1975 Kiss records a show in Wildwood, New Jersey, for use on the Alive! album.

1977 Judas Priest begins their first U.S. tour in Oakland, California, opening for Led Zeppelin at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. At the show, Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, manager Peter Grant, and a bodyguard are arrested and charged with the assault of one of promoter Bill Graham‘s employees at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.

1988 Def Leppard’s Hysteria reaches Number One on the album chart for the first of six times.

1994 Green Day never makes it onstage at a free concert in Cleveland, because the police shut down the show due to overcrowding.

1998 White Zombie‘s La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Volume 1 is certified double platinum.

1999 The Woodstock ’99 music festival kicks off in Rome, New York, featuring performances from MetallicaLimp Bizkit, the Dave Matthews Band, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Sevendust.

2003 Tragedy strikes Ozzfest as Ozzy Osbourne‘s longtime tour manager Bobby Thomson dies in his sleep at the Townshend Hotel in Birmingham, Michigan, after an 18-month battle with throat cancer. Thomson was 50.

2004 Two portions of a video montage that appears during Black Sabbath‘s headlining Ozzfest set are removed. The images, which play during Sabbath’s opening number, “War Pigs,” show George W. Bush in a derogatory light.

2005 Lollapalooza begins its new incarnation as a two-day event at Grant Park in Chicago, Illinois. More than 30,000 fans show up each day to watch over 60 acts, including the Killers,WeezerDashboard ConfessionalKasabian, the BraveryCakeLiz PhairPrimus, the Arcade Fire and more.
