1987 U2 stops traffic in Los Angeles when they shoot the video for “Where The Streets Have No Name” on the roof of Republic Liquor Store.

1990 The Kings County Medical Examiner in Seattle officially concludes that Mother Love Bone singer Andrew Wood died of a heroin overdose.

1992 During a U2 concert in Auburn Hills, Michigan, frontman Bono is flipping channels on the stage’s giant video monitors when he lands on a commercial for a local pizza parlor. He grabs a phone and orders 10,000 pizzas for the audience. About 100 pizzas are actually delivered, leading to the band’s creation of the “I’d like to order 10,000 pizzas” shirt that was put on sale almost immediately afterward.

1993 “Man On The Moon” by R.E.M. peaks at Number 30 on the pop chart.

2000 Punk rocker Ian Dury dies at age 57.

2001 Acclaimed emo rockers At The Drive-In cancel their remaining tour dates and go on what becomes a permanent hiatus.

2002 R.E.M.‘s Michael Stipe and Mike Mills testify in support of bandmate Peter Buck in a London courtroom, where Buck faces charges of drunkenness and assault on an airplane the previous spring.

2004 Disturbed begins holding open auditions for a new bass player, after parting ways with Steve “Fuzz” Kmak earlier in the year.

2004 Approximately 500 Slipknot fans, affectionately called “maggots” by the band, show up in Des Moines, Iowa, for the shoot for the group’s new video for the song “Duality.”

2005 Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke and guitarist Jonny Greenwood premiere a new song called “Arpeggi” during an orchestral performance with the London Sinfonietta at the Royal Festival Hall in England.

2006 Stone Sour officially announces they are parting ways with drummer Joel Ekman.
