1965, The Byrds make their TV debut, performing their version of Bob Dylan‘s “Mr. Tambourine Man” on Hullabaloo.

1981, Bob Marley dies at age 36.

1991 Pearl Jam begins recording its debut album, Ten.

1991 “She Talks To Angels” by the Black Crowes peaks at Number 30 on the pop chart.

1993 Nirvana denies rumors that its record label, Geffen Records, doesn’t want to release its new album because it’s not commercial enough.

1996 A 17-year-old fan is crushed to death at a Smashing Pumpkins show in Dublin, Ireland.

1998 R.E.M. is honored by the University Of Georgia’s Student Historic Preservation Organization for the band’s concern for historic buildings in Athens, Georgia.

2002 Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton loses his Cape Cod home in a fire.

2001 Guns N’ Roses cancels a European tour that was supposed to begin on June 1st, citing illness on the part of guitarist Buckethead as the reason.

2004 Judas Priest releases a four-CD, 65-song career retrospective called Metalogy.

2004 Former Hole and Smashing Pumpkins bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur begins her first national tour as a solo artist, opening for the Offspring.

2005 Jimmy Page plays a bit of Led Zeppelin‘s “Whole Lotta Love” to start the trading day at the New York Stock Exchange, to celebrate the initial public offering of the Warner Music Group. Page’s Les Paul and Marshall amps are so loud that no one on the floor of the exchange can hear the opening bell.

2005 The White Stripes step back onto a stage for the first time in nearly two years in Monterrey, Mexico.

2007 Ex-Audioslave and Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell receives the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award at the third annual MusiCares MAP Fund benefit concert at the Music Box Theatre in Los Angeles. Cornell, a recovering addict, is honored for his work with the MAP Fund in helping musicians who are also in recovery.
