1979 The Kiss album Dynasty is released.

1984 During a Clash concert at Michigan State University, $17,000 in box office receipts are stolen.

1994 The Beastie Boys release their fourth album, Ill Communication.

1995 Felony drug charges are filed against Stone Temple Pilots lead singer Scott Weiland, after he is arrested a few days earlier for allegedly buying crack from a street dealer in Pasadena, California.

2000 Billy Corgan reveals in a radio interview that the Smashing Pumpkins will disband at the end of the year, after fulfilling their touring commitments.

2000 Guitarist Noel Gallagher announces he is quitting Oasis. Of course, he comes back.

2001 The Tool album Lateralus debuts at Number One on the Billboard 200, selling over 550,000 copies in its first week on the streets.

2007 Linkin Park‘s third album, Minutes to Midnight, debuts at Number One on the Billboard album chart, selling 623,000 copies in its first week of release and landing the highest first-week total of 2007. It also becomes one of only six albums in the previous two years to sell more than 600,000 copies in a single week.

2011 Staind parts ways with founding drummer Jon Wysocki after 16 years.

2012 Guitarist and founding member Matt Roberts leaves 3 Doors Down due to health reasons. He dies in 2016.

2017 The remains of Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell are cremated. A small group of family and friends are on hand for the cremation, including his brother Peter, his wife Vicky, and his friends Linda Ramone and singer J.D. King.
