1978 Keith Moon performs for the last time with the Who before his death. The show is filmed for the Who documentary The Kids Are Alright.

1978 U2 is the opening act for the Gamblers at The Project Arts Center in Dublin, Ireland. Well-known local manager Paul McGuinness checks the band out and offers to manage them.

1983 Ronnie James Dio Releases Holy Diver.

1990 Faith No More releases its breakthrough single, “Epic.”

1994 Van Halen begins work on the Balance album.

1994 Nirvana‘s In Utero is certified triple platinum.

1996 Sublime lead singer Bradley Nowell is found dead in his San Francisco motel room of a drug overdose at the age of 26.

1999 Kiss singer-guitarist Paul Stanley starts a run in the stage musical The Phantom Of The Opera in Toronto.

2000 Eddie Van Halen undergoes cancer tests at Houston’s M.D. Anderson Cancer Center to begin an outpatient clinical trial to prevent cancer. The hospital denies reports that Van Halen suffers from cancer.

2003 Green Day wins four awards at the California Music Awards, including the prestigious Spirit Of Rock award.

2005 System Of A Down‘s new album, Mezmerize, debuts at Number One on the Billboard Top 200 album chart, with first-week sales of just under 453,000 copies.

2006 Foo Fighters, Godsmack and Rob Zombie are among the acts that honor rock legends KissJudas PriestQueen and Def Leppard at the taping of the first annual VH1 Rock Honors in Las Vegas. The evening’s final performance features Rob Zombie on vocals, Velvet Revolver‘s Slash on guitar, Anthrax‘s Scott Ian on bass, original Kiss guitaristAce Frehley and Motley Crue‘s Tommy Lee on drums for the Kiss classic “God Of Thunder.”

2010 Two years after reuniting and nine years after issuing their last all-original CD, Stone Temple Pilots release their self-titled sixth album.
