1985 The Live Aid charity concerts take place at Wembley Stadium in London and at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia. Featured performers include Led Zeppelin, with Phil Collins on drums; the WhoMick Jagger and Tina TurnerU2Tom Petty & the HeartbreakersBlack Sabbath reunited with Ozzy OsbourneJudas Priest; and many others.

1994 Kiss makes a surprise appearance on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno as the backing band for Garth Brooks, who performs his version of Kiss’s “Hard Luck Woman.”

1995 Buzz Osbourne of the Melvins tells the Dallas Morning News that Kurt Cobain wrote most of Hole‘s Live Through This.

1999 Stanley Kubrick‘s final directorial effort, Eyes Wide Shut, starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, opens nationwide.

2000 Crazy Town leaves Ozzfest after five dates, partially because of lead singer Shifty Shellshock‘s legal troubles.

2001 Metallica and file-sharing service Napster reach a settlement in their legal battle over the free downloading of Metallica’s music.

2004 A working copy CD of U2‘s new, unfinished album mysteriously disappears while the group is doing a photo shoot in France.

2004 Metallica releases Some Kind Of Monster, a companion EP to the documentary of the same name.

2005 The White Stripes are forced to halt and then abandon an outdoor show in Athens, Greece, when heavy winds bend the lighting rig above the stage, threatening to collapse both the rig and the entire stage.

2006 The fourth album from Chicago punk band Rise AgainstThe Sufferer and the Witness, debuts at Number 10 on the Billboard Top 200, selling more than 48,000 copies in its first week of release.
